I'm trying to locate the records of the West Indian Students Union (UK) on behalf of a number of researchers bothin the UK and elsewhere.
The Union was active in the UK on both issues relating to politics in the Caribbean and the welfare of students in the UK. A number of key members and office holders went on to political office in the post-independence Caribbean. It is clear that any records of the West Indian Students Union would be useful for researchers studying Caribbean politics or the experience of Caribbean peoples in the UK in the twentieth century.
It is possible that these papers are held in an archive somewhere, possibly unlisted. Alternatively they may be held by an individual (perhaps an ex-office holder?). It is of course possible they have been lost or destroyed. We hope that this isn't the case and that these records can be located and preserved and made available for researchers. Any information on the location of the records of the Union, or parts of records relating to the Union or indeed of names and/or contact details of office holders would be appreciated. Please send any details or information (however small or patchy) to the below address. Many thanks David Clover _____________________________________________ David Clover Information Resources Manager/Librarian Institute of Commonwealth Studies University of London 28 Russell Square London WC1B 5DS 020 7862 8840 David.Clover@sas.ac.uk
